In base alla billetta, pu\u00f2 essere suddivisa in estrusione di lingotti, estrusione di billette, estrusione di polveri ed estrusione di metalli liquidi. In base al tipo di metallo, pu\u00f2 essere suddivisa in estrusione di metalli ferrosi ed estrusione di metalli non ferrosi. La forza applicata alla billetta si allinea al suo asse e il prodotto estruso fuoriesce dal foro della matrice in una direzione a 90\u00b0 rispetto alla forza di estrusione.
